Orkhan Mammadov

Orkhan Mammadov was born in 1990 in Ganja, Azerbaijan. From a young age, he showed a strong interest in technology and design, teaching himself graphic and web design. His educational path is diverse and international, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach. He earned a BA in Computer Science from Khazar University, studied Design and Visual Communications at Istanbul Bilgi University, completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Experimental Media at Prague City University, and further expanded his skills through studies in entrepreneurship. This diverse academic background gave him the tools to connect technology, culture, and storytelling in his work across different mediums. By eighteen, Orkhan was already working professionally in web and graphic design, quickly advancing to creative director roles. While working professionally in design, he began experimenting with audiovisual tools, what started as technical exploration soon opened the door to his artistic practice.

His work explores technology and collective memory, drawing on his identity shaped by geographic influences. Using large data sets from archives and public sources, he builds generative art and immersive installations that challenge perceptions of reality and memory. His practice is grounded in solving emotional and cultural questions, using AI as a collaborator that reflects the organic evolution of cultural narratives. Orkhan carefully adapts his work to resonate with different audiences: producing tangible, physical artworks in Dubai where digital art is less embraced; digital-focused pieces in London with its tech-savvy collectors; and immersive, experience-driven installations in Miami that captivate younger, family-oriented crowds. His work invites viewers to reconsider time, space, and identity while forging personal and collective connections to history.

Orkhan has built a strong international presence, with solo and group exhibitions worldwide. His work has earned awards across both art and technology and is held in collections across the globe. Representing Azerbaijan at the Venice Biennale in 2019 was a major milestone that elevated his recognition. His work has featured at prominent venues including Art Basel Miami, Art Dubai, and Dubai’s Museum of the Future. Now based in London, he continues to advance digital and AI art.
