The artist known as Disrupted Star fuses his astrophysics background and generative art obsession with pointillism in the series Cables and Clouds, a dark and stylish departure from his predominantly geometric works. Monochrome and elegiac, the 256 iterations of _Cables and Clouds _plumb the complexities of Tezos-based platform fxhash, which allows for the display of interactive, dynamic digital art.
Disrupted Star used eighteen algorithmic parameters to modulate compositional differences. Some determined the size or color of the dots, while others controlled the subject matter: clouds, hills, poles, cables, rain, birds, balloons. The four outputs seen here–#46, #82, #152,and #174–represent the breadth of the project’s variability.
The fantastical _#174 is the lightest of these pieces in both color and mood. Swallows flock beneath storm clouds that are rooted to the ground by cables. Compare it to #152, an almost sepia-toned composition in which the sky is obliterated by dark clouds. Meanwhile, #82 and #46 are aesthetic midway points. In the former, balloon-like clouds mimic the actual hot-air balloons hovering in the distance. The clouds in #46 _look almost like windswept trees, blowing about under a brightening sky.
On fxhash, the pieces are encoded with interactivity. Keyboard commands let viewers select a color for each monochromatic scene and adjust the resolution as the image is compiled line by line. Each piece can sustain a varied emotional palette.
