Tsuchiya’s essay “On the Creative Power of Machines,” signed Computer Technique Group. Tsuchiya describes the group as eight men who call themselves electronic hippies and who took up computer art as “the most useless way of using a computer.” He recounts the imaginary machines he keeps in an old notebook and argues that if creativity means “the power to make something new,” a machine can have it. Also includes the rhythm-name program made with the jazz pianist Keitarō Miho around 1967.
