Description

_Elements _is a series of animations exploring fire, water, earth, and air through machine learning applications. They were made with VQGAN+Clip, a highly advanced model when ATNPassion made the work in spring 2022, and they exemplify its aesthetics: luminous, painterly images that morph into near equivalents, producing an effect of liquid objecthood and constant motion. The text-to-image models that became available shortly after the release of _Elements _produced outputs in a single step; ATNPassion’s collection remains a testament to the vivid, dynamic surrealism of early generative AI.

The outputs here use similar expressive techniques to achieve the project’s central conceit. The wavy palette of cerulean and violet in Elements 033 evokes water, while the autumnal auburn color scheme of Elements 453 is a vibrant interpretation of fire. The two pieces offer panoramic camera glides that creates the illusion of entire environments forming in real time at the edges of the frame.

As an early adopter of generative AI, ATNPassion was invited to release work on Braindrops, a pioneering curated marketplace for AI art. _Elements _sold out quickly, a testament to the project’s transportive, immersive quality.
