Oscilloscope/Light Photo

4 panel oscilloscope photo.

Description

Mary Elen Bute’s Oscilloscope Photographs signal the beginnings of printed art made with electric machines. By manipulating and photographing images of electronic pulses using an oscilloscope, Bute created a series of images that captured electronic squiggles, dances, and curves.

This piece combines four oscilloscope photos into one print. At least one of the four images is from Bute’s film New Sensations in Sound.
