Paolo Čerić’s Jolly Bunch is a collection of 64 generative drawings in which blurry, indistinct faces press together to form surreal, organic amalgams.
Čerić interlaces multiple tools to produce intricate generative systems, working with Python, Processing, Blender, and Cinema 4D. Because iteration is central to his process, he wrote custom scripts in p5.js to mass-generate images, then selected from thousands of results to find those that best capture the project’s unsettling vitality.
The Jolly Bunch faces are stripped to their simplest features—hollow eyes, thin mouths, rudimentary noses—then merged into dense, amorphous clusters. In #2, they press tightly together like cells caught mid-division; in #6 and #22, they coalesce into vast, tumor-like structures from which a few stray visages drift away.
Through code, Čerić transforms mechanical repetition into something disturbingly human. It’s an exploration of how digital systems can evoke both growth and decay.
