Desmond Paul Henry was not only an artist but also a leading scholar of medieval logic. His interest in formal systems and rule-based reasoning shaped his approach to art.
In his book Logic of Saint Anselm, Henry examined the ideas of a significant medieval philosopher and presented him as a serious logician. The book in the collection is a hand-bound and hand-cut editor’s copy from 1966, and it is full of corrections and date stamps throughout. The cover of the book features one of Henry’s machine drawings from 1963, and though not confirmed, it was most likely made with his Drawing Machine II, built in the autumn of 1962.
