Description

Susumu Endo’s lithographs blend photographic and digital editing processes, mixing the reality of natural landscapes with abstractions of light and space to create a single multidimensional image. Trained as a graphic designer, Endo started printing lithographs in 1979. His early works depicting everyday objects were created by manually manipulating photographic images. In 1992, he began working with computers, becoming one of the first artists to experiment with early digital tools like Adobe Photoshop to create his compositions. Although this example may appear multifaceted, each print begins with a single photographic source. Reflecting on the forces at play in his work, the artist stated: “My main theme is the relationship of two different dimensions in space: the real and the imaginary.”
