The death of a star is the subject of Julien Espagnon’s series Stella Nova.
This project reflects Espagnon’s interest in geometric forms and color, as well as his use of digital systems to test iterative variations before he renders them in ink. _Stella Nova _continues a thematic exploration he began in the series Supernovae (2022).
Stella Nova was developed through digital studies that began with organic, figurative outlines, which Espagnon gradually reduced to geometric abstraction while testing many variations and splitting shapes to mark successive phases of collapse. Espagnon presents the supernova as a sequence of fragmentation, with broken forms signifying collapse and bursts suggesting explosion. In Stella Nova #6, a single circular form anchors the composition as fractured shapes radiate outward in solid fields and dotted textures, bursts of color conveying chaos and energy.
