ASCII text forms the building blocks of early user interfaces on personal computers. Like with real building blocks, the experimental possibilities are endless. Towers, a generative series released on fxhash by Andreas Gysin under his studio name ertdfgcvb, represents a way of infinitely stacking blocks of ASCII text.
The series features 256 algorithmically generated outputs, most with gray backgrounds, some with blue. All feature rectangular blocks of ASCII text patterns with various dimensions, moving at different speeds from either left to right or right to left as they appear at the bottom of the frame and stack upward. The generative animation creates the sense of an eternal tower that spins as it stacks itself out of the frame and into the sky.
