Description

The algorithms of generative art produce new outputs at the click of a button, distinct from the way that physical artworks build up over time, through the repeated motions of the artist’s hand. But code moves and makes marks in its own way, as is evident in projects like Iskra Velitchkova’s Unihabitable

Each of the 350 outputs released on fxhash begin with a light tan ground, on which black and sometimes red lines build simple abstract forms through thousands of cycles of repetition. All the marks are ellipses, rendered in one of three line weights, and ultimately conform to one of three compositional archetypes. Two of these are represented in the collection: one suggests a minimal landscape centered around the horizon line, while the other features a collection of rectangles that evoke a skyline. The third type features large marks that arc across the composition.
