1970 Christmas Card - Homo Jollifoot

Ephemera

Description

In 1969, Roman and Alice Wagstaff Verostko began creating imaginative Christmas greeting cards featuring visions of entities they had supposedly encountered around the house or out walking in nature over the course of the previous year. This is the spiritual being displayed in monochromatic relief on the card’s cover and named in the work’s title. In the couple’s words, the apparitions were intended to relate “to a cultural concern for us in that year.” The time and location of the entity’s appearance is listed on the reverse, while a scripture text serves as a greeting on the right side of the opened card. Verostko often collaborated closely with his wife on creative projects and depended on her aid in the execution of much of his artistic work.
