_Architecture of the Plain _is an NFT and digital print by the pseudonymous Himalayan artist Khwampa. The work is a typical example of his elaborate, maximalist compositions, inspired by Buddhist mandalas and executed entirely in MS Paint.
Khwampa started using MS Paint in 2018, when he received his first computer. Raised in an environment with few resources for art-making, he has described the computer as opening the door to a new universe of creative possibilities. The subsequent rise of NFTs provided a platform for him to share this work with collectors around the world.
The vertical, scroll-like format of this work reflects the dimensions of the screen on which it was created. It is part a series called “Highway and Byways,” minted as ERC-721 tokens in March 2025 and released on the NFT platform Verse. _Architecture of the Plain _takes its title from an abstract composition from 1923 by Paul Klee, along with its palette of blue, red, yellow, and green.
