In addition to his work as an artist, Jeff Davis is a teacher who has published a textbook on color theory. _Color Study _represents the fusion of these two areas of his activity.
The series of 2,000 works explores subtle shifts in color within algorithmically generated grids. Across the horizontal and vertical axes, the hues shift slightly with each cell. The differences from one color to the next are perceptible, but are subtle enough that they have a level of granularity that eludes language. We see a red next to a red next to a red, all distinct. In the examples in the collection pink and red fade to green by way of brown.
“There's infinite room inside the world of color,” Davis said of this collection. With each step we glimpse a new possibility.
