Description

Ivona Tau’s 500-piece collection Dominoes in Fluxus is both an artwork and a game. Collectors are tasked with identifying matching elements and creating paths through the collection by connecting the beginnings and endings of AI-generated morphing animations. Tau says this puzzle explores “the concept of parallel realities and the paths we choose.”

The iteration seen here, titled 137-675 Chrysalis of Light, Metamorphosis Unveiled,_ _begins as an impressionistic composition of blues and whites. The waves soon dissolve into themselves, ceding to banisters of black and shimmering red. Then the blues disappear, leaving us in a completely different place, more urban than marine. The animation coaxes fire from water and architecture from the sea just as Tau draws meaning from AI’s abstractions.
