Ivona Tau’s work always explores heady and expansive topics. The visuals of her generative collection _INFINITE | 無限 _simultaneously shrink to microscopic scale and plumb the depths of deep space. In her art, Tau draws on her experience as an AI researcher to build custom AI models. For INFINITE | 無限 , she compiled a dataset of paint close-ups, abstract photographs, and images made with the Hubble Telescope. INFINITE | 無限 #45 is structured by a partial gridwork of yellow lines, and is suffused with the grainy texture of an image viewed from either extremely close or extremely far away. With glowing edges, the yellow lines pierce a blue void speckled with pink dots that could be electrons or distant stars. Tau finds an expression for her professed interest in “the dichotomy between vastness and singularity” in the aesthetic overlaps of these extreme scales.
