_Draftwerk_is an exploration of systems and space that draws on Anna Beller and Alejandro Campos’s background in architecture, while also considering the distinct expressive properties of physical and digital media.
Campos wrote an algorithm in p5.js that generates intersecting vectors, forming rectangles where lines meet and hatches where they cross on a grid. These structures were plotted on paper in ink. Beller selected iterations to augment with layers of tape and spray paint. The resulting arrangement of color, lines, and overlapping forms stands at the intersection of algorithmic generation and manual intervention.
Beller and Campos paired their manipulated plotter outputs with digital counterparts where the vectors remain in motion and their movement can be altered with a few keystrokes. The digital version of _Draftwerk #28 _displays thick grayscale lines that swing like a slow pendulum, obscured by rapidly shifting boxes of fine vertical lines. The physical work depicts a faded medley of thick black, red, and pink lines that tilt away from the central axis, partially obscured by rectangles comprising fine vertical lines.
