Labyrinthine: City 3 reflects Lovejoy’s late-1980s experiments with Macintosh-based digital imaging and early versions of Photoshop, which she undertook with the goal of generating spatial illusions within a flat image. A meandering labyrinth pattern unfolds in gold and yellow tones, its dimensionality enhanced by a pronounced drop shadow characteristic of early image-editing tools that simulated layered depth on screen.
The work translates this digitally conceived space into a material form as a silkscreen print, mounted within a 1½-inch clear acrylic box that evokes the depth and framing of a computer monitor.
