By achieving intricate output with rudimentary code, Ivan Murit’s _Mechanical Fall 2 _offers a novel perspective on algorithmic art.
Each iteration begins as a white line dotted with black at the center. Subsequent lines transform their predecessors according to simple rules. This so-called “cellular automation” yields a grayscale labyrinth of fractals, where triangles of various sizes intersperse with steep, sloping lines to create a cascade effect. Each component of the piece cedes smoothly to the next.
Only two rules of cellular automation govern _Mechanical Fall 2. _Such intense expression from such simple inputs highlights the stunning breadth of possibilities inherent in any dataset.
