Description

Radiance by Julien Gachadoat is an exploration of subdivided, radiating lines that would inform his later Art Blocks project Radiance (2021) and the Umwelt series (2021).

Gachadoat wrote an algorithm that divides the page into cells and fills each one with arcs. Their spacing and curvature are controlled by a wave function, introducing variation across the surface. The composition uses the grid to establish stability, while the curved lines shift in orientation to create movement. Plotted with an Axidraw, the drawing shows arcs and squares alternating in patches of varying density to produce a shimmering effect.
